This actually sounds awesome! The ability to print out for $10 a copy of a book in the public domain. I'm not much of a fan of e-books. At large of the reason that I'm not a fan of e-books is because they're not easily portable (no PDA, only a laptop) and because I'll lack the ability to actually read them in a few years time whereas I'll still have the ability to read my "old-fashioned" printed books. I.e., technology advances and what you can read/open today with your current software, you won't be able to access in a few years time. Yes, I have books from my childhood that I've kept and read. Same for teen years and now adult years. I'm told I could open up my own library. I don't actually consider books to be disposable the way many people do. I either trade them, own them, donate them to the library, etc. rather than actually throw them in the recycle or trash bin. That physically hurts me unless the item is damaged (dog chewed it up, kid puked on it, etc.).

I agree. Though I doubt I could open my own library, I have a decent collection of my own. E-Books annoy me for the same reasons also. I'd rather pay the money and get something I can own and cherish forever.

Exactly! :-) Not to mention, the eyestrain and headache from reading on a laptop (for me anyway). There's also something about the printed illustrations/pictures/graphics in print books vs. on a computer. I'm not sure what it is--maybe it's the immediacy of the colors/design.

I've been "collecting" books since I was kid (my allowance was $20 and I'd spend it all on buying books every week) and I rarely (although I have in the past) get "rid" of my books. I really need to weed out the books I don't want any more or don't like (and never have). I was thinking of maybe using paperbackswap or donating them to a library.

Sorry for the late response. LJ didn't notify and I'm not on LJ much these days due to real life.

Oh no worries, I do that sometimes myself- forget to check my ElJay page for a certain length of time...

I really need to start getting rid of books myself- because i'm running out of places to put them. >

Running out of room and the possibility of moving are my main motivating factors, too. :-)
