If you want to see what the Creation Museum is like without actually spending money to go there and go inside, go to the John Scalzi flicker page to see the photos of his visit to the so-called museum which has displays of dinosaurs peacefully coexisting with humans! Yes, the museum exists and it is not a joke. Read the explanations of Biblical history! Laugh and mock at how the mental gymnastics involved in their beliefs. Boy, are his readers mean. Hehehehehe. See, Scalzi said he'd go and visit and take photos if his readers gave him money to--paid his money. He said in less than 24 hours he had the money necessary to go several times to the museum. I forget what he said he did with the rest of the money--I want to think he said he gave it to a charity. I've never read his books, just his blog, Whatever, occassionally. Hey, he taped bacon to his cat!

The Amazon reviews of the Three Wolf Moon T-shirt are hilarious. I lol'ed reading the Dual Function Design review, which extolls the women attracting virtues of the shirt.

I've been playing American McGee's Alice videogame (PC version). I downloaded it via torrent--not paying past retail for a videogame (Amazon seller wanted almost $200 for a 2000 year videogame. No. Just. No.) . I'm really liking it. It got really fun after I set Alice to god mode. I prefer using my Playstations and handhelds in playing games--I usually don't play PC games since I really don't like controlling them via keyboard. I either was going to have to buy a joystick (no money--unemployed) or play God mode since I could use the keyboard controls quickly enough to control Alice's movement. I'm liking the darker version of Alice. Watch cutscenes here. I'm pouting 'cause I really can't find fic for the game although I get why (Alice is the only human so it'd be furry, which isn't to everyones taste (sometimes I like it sometimes I don't). I like the voice acting in the game--especially the Chesire Cat's voice. They did a really good job on it and Alice, I think. A new Alice game is supposed to come out for the consoles. I'll be looking for it. I hope I find I job soon.

Copyright in the Age of Youtube. HAH! Take that UMG! Go, Ms. Lenz! Take 'em down! What especially bugs me is that content providers want to make the hosts liable instead of the "pirate" because there is just so many, many "pirates!" The poor companies with their millions of dollars just can't afford to pursue the many, many pirates so let's make Youtube (or whatever host) liable instead and sue them instead. Yeah, no.

Ms. Lenz and UMG cont... )

OMG, yes!! Athetists and Anger. From the blog: "One of the most common criticisms lobbed at the newly-vocal atheist community is, "Why do you have to be so angry?" So I want to talk about: 1. Why atheists are angry;

2. Why our anger is valid, valuable, and necessary; And 3. Why it's completely fucked-up to try to take our anger away from us.So let's start with why we're angry. Or rather -- because this is my blog and I don't presume to speak for all atheists -- why I'm angry." "I'm angry at the believers who put decals on their cars with a Faith fish eating a Darwin fish... and who think that's clever, who think that religious faith really should triumph over science and evidence. I'm angry at believers who have so little respect for the physical world their God supposedly created that they feel perfectly content to ignore the mountains of physical evidence piling up around them about that real world; perfectly content to see that world as somehow less real and true than their personal opinions about God."

OMG, yes. I'm a scientist by training and by heart--I especially despise religion b/c it discounts science so much. Marvelous article that explains why I'm also fed up with the Xtian religion even though I'm not quite an atheist.

a small religion rant.......... )

I just found and really like[info]ozarque 's (Ms. Elgin) blog on communication and it's various styles. She's written the books the Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense and other books that I'm now going to have to check out. It's been making me think about I communicate/don't communicate. Search on: ask guess hint site:ozarque.livejournal.com and you'll find information about the "askers" vs. the "hinters", which has clarified a few things for me.

 If you're interested in ebooks, Calibre might be handy for you. It's some of ebook manager. I'm currently sorting, organizing, and discarding my (physical) books. I now see the appeal of ebooks. Gah--it's so time consuming--save this book? Don't save it? Wah, I'm out of room, these boxes are heavy, oh my god, is that more of them I need to sort in that there box over yonder?! Damn it, why did this book have to get yellow pages and a musty odor?! Why are these not ebooks and then all I have to do is move my laptop!!! .............Yeah, they'll have to pry my books from my cold, dead hands even with the hassle that they can be. I still can't believe people pay approx $350 for a Kindle to read ebooks.

Here's a believe it or not. Banned Books, Chapter 2 by Michael Alison Chandler is about Focus on the Family religious fanatics who want to get books that are against homosexuality into libraries. Because the libraries don't want to carry these days, these religious nuts are saying they are being discriminated against even though these books are not reputable books (they are put out by religious publishers, they have no level of scholarship or research in them, and they are merely faith-based diatribes against gays and lesbians). Gee, I wonder why a librarian doesn't want hate speech in their library?! There won't be any of that crap in my library either I can assure you. They say libraries are "pro_homosexuality" because they carry books like And Tango Makes Three (gay penguins raise chick) and because they carry books saying homosexuality is genetic/determined at birth instead of it being the choice that it is. Dear God. I guess animals make a conscious choice to be gay, huh? Instead of it being genetic. So, those penguins woke up one day and said I'll be gay now. Morons. Why does being religous mean so many people lose their freakin' minds?!

A large part of the reason why I dislike (really, truly dislike religion, especially organized religion) is because of religion's emphasis on making people hate/dislike/discriminate against other people (homosexuality is preached against as are scientists and women are just supposed to obey their husbands, etc.). Why I can't the Christian God? Well, according to his leaders (priests, preachers, etc.) and his flock (people who actually believe the septic words his leaders spew: God is a homophobe (he's against homosexuals), racist (white race is superior and other races inferior (past and present (yes I've heard this in the present), anti-fun (no dancing! leads to sex! alcohol is evil! (not that I drink)) and sexist (women must obey men). I don't like these qualities in the people I know and I like them even less in the God I'm "supposed" to worship. Boy, I hate living in the Bible belt. I really do think I don't have the "faith gene".
