It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

Wanna read funny zombie fic? Try And I Feel Fine by melodyunity. It's short, 5 min max, and funny. It's in the Psych fandom but you don't need to know the characters or show to find the fic funny. I LOL'ed through the fic and I'm not very familiar with the characters.

Like tattoos? I like to look at them (think about getting one)  but I think most tattoos are kind of ugly--most of them are not just well-done IMO--but a few are gorgeous. This tattoo in the Sailormoon fan community is one of them. The tat is of SM's moon chalice. It's gorgeous in its execution and design. You'll need to join the community to see it since it's a private entry but its worth it to see the tat. Also, in the comments, the original poster posts a full-body pic of all her tattoos.

Protect Insurance Companies PSA on Funnyordie It's funny but it's sad too, I think. I don't get why people are so afraid of the government reforming healthcar-as far as I'm concerned the insurance companies can go straight to hell--most of them anyway. Denying coverage for someone to have a life-saving treatment to protect their profits and bottom-line?!

Good Orient has some reasonably priced, nice-looking Asian clothing. I like this kimono inspired dress. I like the jewelry too. Now, if only I had some money. *sighs*.

So, I'm really enjoying [personal profile] ookami_kasumi 's fanfic. You can find them easily here. I'm especially liking Kitsune bi (Donuts fic), Bound (a Natsume's Book of Friends fanfic), and Indecent Exposure (Naruto fic: Kakashi/Iruka). She really does her (I think she's a she) into Japanese myths and customs. I'm not sure familiarity with the fandoms are required for enjoyment of the stories. I'm only familiar with Naruto's source material but I enjoy all the fics I've read by her equally. She occasionally makes grammar mistakes and word substitutions (where for were) but I like her fics so much I overlook it and it's not constant. It's only occassionally.

OMG. Found this. North Carolina church plans Halloween Bible BURNING.

Marc Grizzard, of Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, North Carolina, says that the first King James translation of the Bible is the only true declaration of God’s word, and that all others are “satanic”.

Pastor Grizzard said: “I believe the King James version is God’s preserved, inspired, inerrant, infallible word of God… for English-speaking people.

“We are burning books that we believe to be Satanic.”

As well as inappropriate translations from the original Hebrew and Aramaic, the pastor and his associates will be burning books by various Christian authors, as well as music of every genre.

Heretics according to this psycho include Billy Graham, Rick Warren, and even the MOTHER THERESA is a Satanic author according to this wackjob.

Is it just me or are these people insane?!?

Oh yeah, my fave bit: The book-burning is hoped to be a social event, with a barbecue laid on for attendees. It is not clear whether the meat will be grilled over the heat of burning Gospels.

Really? A social event with a barbecue? I don't know whether to laugh or scream in horror.

Jeffrey Thomas has redone the Disney princesses in a goth, undead, zombie style. Aurora's a vampire?! Cinderella's a scarecrow? They're dark and the images are intriguing, well, to me anyway. Comics Alliance has resized a few of the pics that JT has done so that their easier to see but fit on your screen so that  you don't have to do as much clicking. JT's big pics are really big.  He's even got a Captain Jack Sparrow version.

...................I kinda want to write fanfic for them..........OMG........

Anti-war activist's works banned at Guantanamo's prison camp
From the article: Professor Noam Chomsky may be among America's most enduring anti-war activists. But the leftist intellectual's anthology of post 9/11 commentary is taboo at Guantánamo's prison camp library, which offers books and videos on Harry Potter, World Cup soccer and Islam...... DeWalt said "force protection reasons'' barred him from explaining why any title or author was banned but said as of this week there were no Chomsky works of any type at the Guantánamo library in any language.

Ooooooookay. Really. The comments say it all.

ROFLMAO. [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter wrote the funniest fic that I think I've ever read. The incestuous courtship of the antichrist's bride.  Nose cola warning. Don't say I didn't warn ya. :-)   It's Sam/Dean and-and-and-------it's hilarious. Even if not a fan of Supernatural or the pairing, I think it's worth reading it's so funny. I don't think enjoying the fic is  really dependent on having knowledge of the show although I am a fan of the show so it's hard to tell. I do think it may be funnier if you are familiar with the show but it's still funny without that. Sam's trying to become the Antichrist in order to stop the Apocalypse and it trying to choose the path that will cause the least damage/death. Sam goes to visit Lucifer and accidentally gets engaged to Dean and thus is following the path of the Sacred Whore Consort, which involves him marrying Dean. Excerpts below:

The Brotherhood of the Stolen Eyes was the first church to spring up in Sam's name. It's since been followed by the Cult of the Shadow King and the Order of Lost Souls, the latter being a splinter group of the Brotherhood, created to accommodate the worshipping needs of those who already had World of Warcraft on Tuesday evenings.
.......
Tentatively, he puts his fingertips on one of Dean's asscheeks and his thumb on the other, and spreads Dean's ass open to reveal the tiny, dusky pink hole. It's really very small, and Sam doesn't want to brag about how well endowed he is, and all the gay porn websites assure him he'll be amazed by how stretchy the muscle is, but he is now genuinely concerned about fitting himself inside of Dean. There will be blood and pain and possibly 'never getting back out again' drama, and maybe this is why it's a suitable act for getting the gates to Hell open.
.........
"That's a finger, Dean. That's one single finger." Obviously, the next step is 'two fingers'. And then 'scissoring'; Sam has read plenty of instructional websites and they are very clear: one finger, two finger, scissoring. After much more reading, he is also fairly sure now that 'scissoring' refers to the motion he makes with his fingers, and is not an instruction to insert a pair up Dean's ass.

The NASA moon did succeed after all. Excellent. I'm looking forward to reading about the results.

The Tron Legacy trailer is up. I'm so excited. I can't wait for it to be released. Looking back, I think Tron may be responsible for my love of futuristic looking vehicles, especially motorcycles.

Oh, yeah, there's a femslash blogtalkradio show/podcast, called Femslash for Fans, hosted by Allaine. I liked his Harley/Ivy fics (needs a little work on his scene transitions but the fics are otherwise recced) so I thought why not give his show a try?  I've listened to most of the shows and I like it for the most part. He tends to speak quiet and his guests, fanfic authors, louder so I have to play with the volume a little but it's okay. You can download the podcasts.  I've found femslash fandoms that I'm interested in such as PepSi (Peppa/Silva, which is based on a Spanish soap opera show........I've watched some of the clips so far and it's much better than US portrayals so far of a lesbian relationship). It is a soap opera though so expect typical soap shenangians. Too bad I can't find a slash version/podcast, so far anyway.

Is it just me or is NCIS LA a redone, wannabe Fastlane? NCIS LA is  way less sexual than Fastlane.  I like the characters of LA  but the show reminds of a NCIS version of Fastlane, which I adored and was extremely pissed off when it was cancelled. I still miss Fastlane's slash sub(over)text. No, really. The main pairing was also an African American and white guy (in slash and on the show--police partners). They acted like they were a long-term married couple. Their boss, a woman, refused to discuss her sexual orientations, which fueled my femslash tendencies (she shared a kiss with a criminal she was tracking and it didn't seem to upset her). Wasn't the greatest show but I adored it anyway. I'm liking LA much more than I expected to. I think I even like it more than NCIS (hate Ziva, HATE her, she ruins the show!) even though I adore Abby, Ducky, and Gibbs.

A Louisiana judge refuses to marry an interracial couple since he doesn't believe in interracial marriage because of the effects such a marriage has on its children.  I have no words really..............I mean WTF?!? I'm stunned and I'm staring in disbelief. I'm getting more pissed by the second. Who does this judge think he is to tell people they cannot marry----to tell them that they cannot love who they love?!

From the article:

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."

Bardwell said he asks everyone who calls about marriage if they are a mixed race couple. If they are, he does not marry them, he said.

Bardwell said he has discussed the topic with blacks and whites, along with witnessing some interracial marriages. He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.

The physicist advisor to the Big Bang Theory has created a blog, the Big Blog Theory, where he discusses the physic ideas used on the show. It's kind of interesting. It just started.

There's a music/performance group called Witches in Bikinis. I've heard a couple of their song and LOL'ed all t the way through them.

Archaeologist discovers Count Dracula's cellar
. Eh. Interesting if true.

The Real Story of Nazi Egyptology Interesting. Need to finish reading it.

Okay, so I'm late to the Merlin fandom. If you know nothing about it, all you need to know is that it's a British "modern" au retellling of King Arthur. Arthur is a prince, Uther is king, and Merlin is Arthur's manservant and the same age as Arthur. Merlin also has to hide his magic since practicing magic is against Uther's law and is punishable by death. Also? It's very slash and has it's own slash dragon. No, really, the dragon says things like the 2 of you have intertwined destinies, etc. All the time.

Anwyay, on to the recs:

Two for One by Greensliver: a retelling of the Sword in the Lake and how the Sword in Stone legend developed. Funny. I LOL'ed a couple of time reading it. I can so see that this is  how the legends developed.

"Sire, she did try to drown Merlin," Lancelot points out, which is nice; at least someone hasn't forgotten that Merlin nearly died trying to retrieve the thing. Or, all right, he didn't nearly die -- but he did inhale an awful lot of lake water, and that can't be healthy. "
________
Grave Mistake by kickflaw. I LOL'ed throughout the entire story.  A ghost, Blaise, awakened accidently by Merlin, haunts Merlin and makes rude, lewd remarks to him. I nearly died laughing.

“Immediately,” Blaise said, as Merlin made his way through the castle. “In his chambers. You know what that means.”

“It means that he’s a prat who can’t pour his own dinner wine. Shut up,” Merlin whispered, “please, not around Arthur. Please.”

“Why ever not? Oho! Do you like him, Merlin? Does our handsome prince get your knickers all wet?

And that’s when Merlin knew it was going to be a bad night.
____________
Damsel in Distress by thehoyden. I LOL'ed reading this. Not the slash dragon of the tv show but another slash dragon as it turns out. Merlin's been kidnapped by a dragon. Hilarious.

The dragon insisted on spitting a small flame at the branches Merlin had gathered that evening for a fire, and he and Arthur ate bread and cheese while the dragon lolled about and made occasional comments about maybe having eaten too much.

"I told you not to eat that third cow," Arthur said heartlessly.

So, Pirate Bay has been sold and is going legit. Eh. Best of luck to them but I think the people who bought it will end up regretting it. I don't blame the PB founders in the least for selling it though for 7.7 million. I would have done so myself. I never used it much but I did think it was an excellent tracking site.

This is just too funny! Rose, et al. "The bra-strap injury: should men have lessons?" British Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2001. Yes, it's an actual research, published article. Hahahahahaha. I mean seriously?! Here's an entry that explains it--sounds fishy to me! Physical therapy for that?! Hah.

Naruto: I heart this Wild West pic of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura so much I've set it as my computer wallpaper. Naruto's a sheriff, Sasuke's a gunfighter, and Sakura's a saloon girl.

Naruto: That pic inspired this fic Of Guns and Glory by Sowell. A Naruto AU set in the Wild West. I can't believe I love it--I'd gotten tired of the Wild West/Old West stuff long ago (I live in Texas, soooooo cowboy/WW stuff is very common here). It's all kinds of awesome. Tsunade runs the saloon, Naruto's the sheriff who is investigating Sasuke who is tracking his brother Itachi (who killed the family) for some murders that have occurred in the area. It's SasuNaru. It's a multiparter (yay!) Go, read, enjoy.

I've been reading her other Naruto fic also. So far, I've not come across a bad one--not even the Kakashi and Sakura one. Listing of Naruto fic here.

xxxHolic: The Incubi: Part 1 & Part 2 by Lunargeography. Doumeki/Watanuki. A very funny & sexy tentacle sex fic with both of them keeping reasonably true to their characters! In a tentacle fic! Heh.

From the fic: "The slick head of a tentacle brushing fleetingly against the equally slick head of Watanuki's erection dragged a noise up from deep in Watanuki's throat, but he was going to finish his complaint, come hell, high water, or embarrassing Doumeki-elicited noises."   LOL. Wanna know what his complaining was about? Go read the fic and enjoy.

xxxHolic: ROTFLMAO. If you only read one of these fics, read this one-Pirate Transmission. Doumeki/Watanuki. Pirates! Tentacles! Sea shanties!!!!! It's too hilarious. I think it's one of the funniest things I've ever read! It's by lunargeography's beta, badmovie, who turns out to be her awesome husband! It's in the comments after part 2 of The Incubi. Why can't I find someone like that?!

From the fic: ""I find this not be to my likin'," Watanuki said, as more of them blasted tentacles came round and wrapped themselves round his extremity-bits, exceptin' the wooden one which fell onto the rocks as the tentacles lifted Watanuki into the air, in a sort of vertical spread-albatross. "It's rather constrictin', and the breeze be cold upon my pirate parts.""

I don't think you need prior knowledge of Naruto or xxxHolic to enjoy these fics.

In order to raise money for the Point Foundation, which "provides financial support, mentoring, leadership training and hope to meritorious students who are marginalized due to sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression," an Internet art auction will be held from July 20th-24th. " Original art pieces have been donated by several notable artists including nationally syndicated cartoonist Paige Braddock (http://comics.com/janes_world/); illustrator, artist, and animator Erika Moen (http://www.erikamoen.com/); and award-winning cartoonist Megan Rose Gedris (http://rosalarian.com/)." More artists are listed on the front webpage. You can click through and see the art that has been donated interests you.

If only I had a job and some money, *sighs*. There's a couple of pics that I like but this one with the tentacles (not sexy really, the couple kisses, but it may not be worksafe 'cause of the tentacles or the fact that both of them is female) is kind of weird but sweet.

I rotflmao the entire time I was reading this is not a chick flick by bookesque. It's sooooooooooo funny. This has got to be one of my favorite retellings of this Greek myth. Yes, it's het but it's funny het. :-D

Here's a line from it, ""I'm serious, Zeus," Hades admonished his younger brother. "I need to talk to you and would you please stop fondling my ass?!"".

Go. Read. Laugh.

ROTFLMAO. I'd never would have thought of Jane Austen and Zombies before but now I really wanna see it! "The news was announced in the recently released novel "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," which recounts the struggle of Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters to simultaneously annihilate the undead invading their idyllic community and to marry well. Were it just the zombies, the Bennet sisters would surely triumph, armed as they are with advanced weaponry knowledge and Shaolin martial arts training. Unfortunately, however, aliens, vampires, robots and dragons are also about to descend on the village."

Let's not forget the Predator vs. Jane Austen movie either (pics!).

This has got to be the funniest movie review ever written. I made the mistake of reading it late at night and almost couldn't stop myself from waking up my roomie with my laughing. It's Michael Bay Finally Made An Art Movie, which reviews Transformers. I love the review and the movie.

I thought the Transformers: ROTF was funny. These movies, if done right, will probably be even funnier. Yeah, I loved T:ROTF, so sue me. I even kind of think it's better than the first one. Of course, I'm not looking for Oscar potential or even a lot of sense although I did follow the plot-- what there was of it. I'm looking for Transformers and this movie has plenty, much more than the first one and not just in number of them. I'm talking about being on screen, transforming, and battling and this movie has plenty of them, including number. I thought the movie was funnier than most movies billed as comedies and that the reviewers just need to get a sense of humor.

OMG! Man, Christopher Handley, arrested and convicted of owning child "porn" because a few of the 10,000 manga he collected has child "porn" in them, i.e. images of "children" (?) (the articles I've read don't state if the images are teens or actual children and I really don't care--they're manga drawings, damnit! ETA: one article said the images (all of them?) were pre-pubescent.). The man is not a pedophile--no background of it or images of actual, real children were found during the investigation, which ensued after the U.S. Post Office decided to open a package of his from Japan that contained manga that had images of child "porn" in it. I want to know why they decided to open the package in the first place.

Here's brief article about it: U.S. Manga Obscenity Convictions Roils Comic World Has links to the other articles about it. From the article: "The 39-year-old office worker was charged under the 2003 Protect Act, which outlaws cartoons, drawings, sculptures or paintings depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, and which lack “serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.” Handley’s guilty plea makes him the first to be convicted under that law for possessing cartoon art, without any evidence that he also collected or viewed genuine child pornography. He faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison."

Matt Thorn has an article and links to other articles that are well-worth reading concerning the case. From his article: "But whether I would like him or not, or think he is a “nice guy” or not, is irrelevant. It’s also irrelevant that I personally find lolicon manga, and a lot of other hentai manga, to be offensive and disturbing. As others have pointed out, to support free expression is not just to defend expression you like, but rather to defend expression you despise

The chilling bottom line is that an American may very well go to prison for acquiring and looking at drawings of characters who do not actually exist."  Emphasis mine. Totally agree and totally freaked out now.

Comi-Press: Down the Slippery Slope--The Crime of Viewing Manga is one of the best articles I've read on the subject. It starts out discussing the Whorley case (a man previously convicted of viewing real-life child porn) and then discusses the Handley case. "Christopher Handley's circumstances were vastly different from Dwight Whorley's when law enforcement officers followed him home from the Post Office on May 23, 2006. He had just picked up a package from Japan containing manga. A thorough search of his home turned up only more of it: some 1200 magazines, hundreds of DVDs, laser discs and videotapes, and an untold number of images on computer, but no child pornography or even images of nude minors. Handley was a collector of manga, not lolicon, and the vast majority of the manga and images he possessed contained no fantasy representations of minors at all.[18] The fact that a small amount of it represented fictional pre-pubescents and fantasy portrayals of sadomasochistic or violent sex, however, meant that Handley faced a sentence ranging from a minimum of 7 years and 3 months in prison to a maximum of 9 years.

What does a small amount mean? By the government's count, he received or possessed more than 150 but less than 300 such images in total. Not 150 to 300 magazines, but cartoon pages with one or more panels or individual jpgs. " And we're talking about 150 to 300 images in 10,000 volumes of manga! Not even collected in volume.

Also from the Slippery Slope: "Soon, if the so-called "Safety Act," currently pending before Congress, is passed, the sentence for receiving even a single prohibited cartoon in violation of Section 1466A will jump from "not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years" to "15 years or for life." [34] Life. For cartoons." All emphasis mine. According to the article, just looking at such images on the Internet is punishable and convictable--you're receiving child "porn"--and if you draw it, you're in "production" of it and also prosecutable.

I have no words, really. Talk about thought control and police. Do I need to now hide my fic recs (the Sky High recs I just posted are about teenagers--Will/Warren). Am I going to be arrested for that? Do I need to make my memories private to prevent government snooping? Where does it stop? How do you define a child? Yes, a thousand times yes, go after the real-life child porn producers and molesters but leave drawings, cartoons, anime, art, and anything that doesn't involve real-life anybody (adult, child) alone. I feel like I'm now living in 1984/Farenheit 451 even moreso.

If you want to see what the Creation Museum is like without actually spending money to go there and go inside, go to the John Scalzi flicker page to see the photos of his visit to the so-called museum which has displays of dinosaurs peacefully coexisting with humans! Yes, the museum exists and it is not a joke. Read the explanations of Biblical history! Laugh and mock at how the mental gymnastics involved in their beliefs. Boy, are his readers mean. Hehehehehe. See, Scalzi said he'd go and visit and take photos if his readers gave him money to--paid his money. He said in less than 24 hours he had the money necessary to go several times to the museum. I forget what he said he did with the rest of the money--I want to think he said he gave it to a charity. I've never read his books, just his blog, Whatever, occassionally. Hey, he taped bacon to his cat!

The Amazon reviews of the Three Wolf Moon T-shirt are hilarious. I lol'ed reading the Dual Function Design review, which extolls the women attracting virtues of the shirt.

I've been playing American McGee's Alice videogame (PC version). I downloaded it via torrent--not paying past retail for a videogame (Amazon seller wanted almost $200 for a 2000 year videogame. No. Just. No.) . I'm really liking it. It got really fun after I set Alice to god mode. I prefer using my Playstations and handhelds in playing games--I usually don't play PC games since I really don't like controlling them via keyboard. I either was going to have to buy a joystick (no money--unemployed) or play God mode since I could use the keyboard controls quickly enough to control Alice's movement. I'm liking the darker version of Alice. Watch cutscenes here. I'm pouting 'cause I really can't find fic for the game although I get why (Alice is the only human so it'd be furry, which isn't to everyones taste (sometimes I like it sometimes I don't). I like the voice acting in the game--especially the Chesire Cat's voice. They did a really good job on it and Alice, I think. A new Alice game is supposed to come out for the consoles. I'll be looking for it. I hope I find I job soon.
